The Instagram Content Formula That Expands Your Reach

Instagram says the most effective way to improve reach is to create content people actively share.

In practice, though, there are two primary ways audiences discover brands online: through search or through recommendations via shares. The strongest long-term strategy combines both.

Shareable content expands reach through trusted recommendations, while searchable content connects with people already looking for answers, expertise, or solutions. Together, they tend to drive stronger engagement and conversions than reach alone.

Chelsea Peitz shares 40 ways to create dual-purposed content in 5 categories that maximize both discoverability and sharing potential. Reach more here.

Gemini Can Finally Create Downloadable Files

For all its benefits and integration with the Google Workspace ecosystem, Gemini has been deficient in one key area up until now: producing files and documents that you can open in Drive or download to your computer.

Previously, users were limited to a single 'Export to Docs" option for Gemini responses. Now you can prompt Gemini to create a file in whatever format is required, from Drive formats like Sheets, Docs, and Slides, to PDFs, TXT files, CSV files, MD (markdown) files, and even Microsoft formats like XLSX and DOCX.

This drastically improves efficiency for users and expands Gemini's capabilities beyond simple text, tables, images, and videos.

If you are you pleased with a particular response, you can use these prompts to customize the output:

  • Please turn your response into a Slides slide deck that I can present to my team.

  • Convert this data into an XLSX file that I can share with our controller.

  • Convert this prompt into an MD file that I can use for my custom GPT instructions (for meta prompting).

  • Please turn your response into a visually enhanced PDF.

YouTube Shorts: Hooks and Curiosity Loops That Explode Your Views

In Shorts, the moment you raise a question in the viewer's mind and leave it unanswered, you’ve opened a curiosity loop. The loop doesn't close until you provide the answer. The tension between the two instances is what drives watch time.

How to Model High-Performing Curiosity Loops

The first step is to stop the scroll. That's where hooks come in. Text, audio, and visual hooks can be stacked or used independently; a single strong hook can be enough to stop a scroll.

Audio Hooks: This isn’t simply what you hear in the first few seconds of a Short. It’s what you hear that makes you curious. Someone saying their name is audio. Someone saying, "I just found a dark secret!" is an audio hook.

Visual Hooks: What do you see that creates immediate credibility or intrigue? What is visually present that makes you want to watch the entire short?

Text Hooks: John believes text hooks are the most underutilized type. A text hook is a phrase that appears on screen and sets the narrative plot, essentially telling the viewer that something specific is about to unfold. Critically, it's not what you're saying out loud. It's the subtext to the situation, a layer of meaning that sits beneath the spoken words and reframes everything the viewer is watching.

For example, imagine a Short with this line on screen while a marketer appears to be having a normal client conversation. "What marketers say to their clients vs. what they want to say." The viewer now knows the spoken words aren't the whole story, so they stay to find out what the marketer is really thinking. The text hook creates a gap between what's visible and what's real, and that gap generates powerful curiosity.

To craft a scroll-stopping hook structure, the starting point isn't brainstorming from scratch. It's studying what's already performing. Find a viral Short, identify what hook it used, and ask how you can apply that same structural dynamic to your topic or niche.

Here's an example:

  • This Short opens with the line: "These are the top three businesses with the lowest failure rate." That's a powerful audio hook. Why does it work? The listicle format triggers a specific psychological pull: viewers feel compelled to stay to hear the third item.

  • Visually, the speaker is standing in front of an expensive car and holding cash, which instantly signals credibility and authority.

  • The text hook in this example is notably absent.

To adapt this hook, John replaces the category and the qualifier. "Businesses" becomes whatever niche category applies to you. "Lowest failure rate" becomes the most relevant benefit or outcome in your field.

For a creator teaching YouTube Shorts strategy, that becomes: "These are the top three Shorts niches with the highest payout." Same structural mechanics, completely different application.

For a toy store, it becomes: “These are the top three toys kids love that cost parents the least.”

Building Portable AI Workflows That You Can Take Anywhere

When marketers find a preferred AI platform, they often build projects, prompts, and workflows specific to that tool. This feels efficient, but it creates dependencies that can cost you unexpectedly.

AI platforms can go down, and a business built entirely around one tool is at risk.

Performance is another concern. AI model updates can unexpectedly affect output quality..

Financial factors are also important. Nicole notes that current AI model prices are low, but they may rise to reflect real costs. Lock-in leaves you with no leverage or alternatives if pricing changes.

There's also a functional benefit. Different models have various strengths. If you use Claude but need image generation, being able to switch to ChatGPT or OpenAI without losing context or tools is a key advantage.

Portability doesn't mean using every platform at once; it just means you're never trapped.

How to Create AI Workflow Portability With Skills

At its core, a skill is a .zip file containing a Markdown file, a plain-text document formatted to provide structured instructions that an AI can process. This file instructs an AI how to perform a specific task. That markdown file can be as simple as written directions, or it can include templates, brand assets, logos, code scripts, calculators, and reference documents, all bundled together. The only required element is the markdown file. Everything else is optional.

A marketer might have a skill for brand guidelines, another for copywriting, and a third for data analysis.

Regardless of which AI platforms and models you build your skills in, you can download the SKILL.md file (a markdown document containing AI instructions) and upload it to any other AI that supports skills. So, a skill built and downloaded from Claude can be used in Claude Cowork, Claude Code, ChatGPT, or Codex.

A useful way to picture it is to think about when Neo downloads martial arts in The Matrix; he instantly knows how to fight. A skill works the same way; hand it to an AI, and it immediately knows how to perform the task the skill describes.

How to Make a Portable AI Skill

Claude, ChatGPT, and Codex all have a built-in Skill Creator. In Claude, the skill creator can be manually enabled in your settings. In ChatGPT, skill functionality is available on Team and Enterprise accounts.

Once activated, you simply chat with the skill creator, describe what you want the skill to do, and the markdown file is written for you. For those comfortable with code, skills can also include scripts and custom logic, but the entry-level version is just a conversation.

For example, Nicole gives the Skill Creator a recurring prompt or set of instructions she already uses and tells it to turn it into a skill.

Here are the instructions for a custom GPT I've been using to summarize news stories.

Please use them to create a skill.

The skill creator formats a SKILL.md file. However, even with the skill creator doing the heavy lifting, you will need to test the output, run it against real tasks, and refine the markdown instructions until the skill performs exactly as you need it to do.

When you’re happy with the results, you can download the file for use in any other model or share it with a colleague.

Pro Tip: For teams on enterprise accounts, skills can also be deployed organization-wide, making it easy to standardize workflows without requiring everyone to build from scratch.
